classics.

Recently, every night before I go to sleep, I watch an old black and white movie. I have been fascinated with films for  long time, and the classics were always important to me. The leading ladies in these movies are classy, fierce, independent, incredibly quick whitted and smart. It's a big jump to the present movies where a model is suddenly the same thing as an actress. Needless to say, the acting of today is nowhere near the acting of the past. There are three leading lady's whom I admire the most, not only for their beauty and class, but for there incredible acting abilities. Once you start watching one of these women, you can take your eyes of the screen.

Irene Dunne

Dunne was an actress of the 30's and 40's, and a five time Academy Award best actress nominee. I recently watched her in Penny Serenade, which she was phenomenal in. I found this quote which describes her so well... "She was strikingly beautiful and enormously gifted for drama, musicals, or comedy (an art at which...she was one of the best and most underrated)."

Claudette Colbert

Colbert began her acting career on Broadway in the 20's and later progressed to motion pictures. Between the 30's and 40's her career skyrocketed, and she became one of the highest paid entertainers in American cinema.  She had one win and two other nominations for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. "Modern critics and film historians note that Colbert demonstrated versatility throughout her career, and played characters that ranged from vamps to housewives, and that encompassed screwball comedy and drama." She is by far one of the best actresses I have ever seen. I have seen many of her films, but my two favorites are Sleep, My Love and Since You Went Away.

Katharine Hepburn

Talk about a lady with whit, and intelligence. I have serious actress envy over Ms. Hepburn. She holds the record for the most Best Actress Oscar wins with four out of 12 nominations, and is ranked as the number one actress in American history. She is different from any other actress of her time. She was noticeable by her distinguished accent, her straightforward attitude, and unconventional ways. She paired well with all of her male co-stars, most noticeable was her on screen chemistry with her off-screen lover, Spencer Tracy. I personally loved her with Cary Grant, in one of my favorite movies of all time Holiday.

All of these women inspire me to work hard and to keep pursuing acting. I think watching these women makes me a better actress, and a better person. These films will enrich your life, and bring you back to a time where people lived their lives with class and decency. If you think you aren't a fan of old films, I promise you will change your mind after watching some of the ones I mentioned!

xoxo.
